As a family farm specializing in equine care and training, with over 30 years in the field, we can offer you a variety of services to help you better enjoy your equine experience. Applewood Farm is a semi-private facility that offers a variety of different equine programs available to the public. We have both indoor and outdoor arenas which we operate year round. We also have a heated viewing and tack room for those cold winter days. Sorry, guided trail riding is not available! However, boarders can take advantage of the forest preserve trails approximately 5 minutes away by trailer.
Applewood Farm is a family atmosphere specializing in pleasure, showing, non-showing, driving and trail training. We are not strictly high power showing. It is also not our business to buy and sell horses solely for the purpose of getting rid of a horse. We want to make your relationship with your horse last!
We show in A, B and Open shows and have 25 years of showing experience. But our goal is to enjoy our horse and to help teach others to enjoy their own horses and riding in general. Take a look below to see what we can offer!
Lesson Programs:
We have private, semi-private and small class lessons available.
English and Western lessons available with our seasoned school and show horses.
Our lessons are approximately 30 to 45 minutes of riding time, as well as 15-30 minutes to learning how to groom, saddle, and bridle.
Tiny Tot Lessons:

5–15 minute lessons $45.00

Training Available:
We train all our horses to a balanced movement with emphasis on collection and movement. English and Western. We break horses to ride and drive...including ponies.
English and Saddleseat training/finishing are available.
Western Pleasure training/finishing is available.
Experienced in gaited horses such as Fox Trotters, Paso Finos, Saddlebreds, and Tennessee Walkers.
Horsy Boot Camp:
This is a 60-90 day program designed for the backyard horsemen who need some brushing up for themselves and their horses; or for the homesteader who allows their horse(s) to become a little spoiled and out of control. This is not high performance training. But rather, it is intended to bring back the horse's respect for its owner and/or build the owner's confidence back. A bonding...which allows you to regain that great relationship with your horse!
This program is also for the person who may have bought a little more horse than expected...someone who needs to decide whether this relationship is worth saving or if it might be in the best interest of both owner and horse to part ways and find better partners.

Overnight Camp!
Sleep with the horses $125.00
Come camp at Applewood tents only. Campers arrive set up camp, ride horses, swim, cook dinner on the fire pit, bath horses, feed and ride again. Roast marshmallows and camp songs. Get up in the AM and feed your horses. Then have your own breakfast while watching the farrier at work. Take a driving lesson. Grooming, and leg bandaging contests and more.
Bring your own sack lunch and snacks. Dinner and breakfast included.
Birthday Parties and Special Events (Girl Scout Badges, and Church events)
Applewood Farms is also available for birthday parties and special events, year round. Birthday parties for all ages. They are not only fun, but a learning experience, as well! We have safety lessons, learn to groom, learn to mount/dismount & guide around cones, and even play games with the horses.
