Comments: My company tech guy couldn't fix the problem i've been having with ms word. I kept getting an old letter on each new doccument. I've been trying to fix this for about 2 months now, in my spare time. Thank you so very much! One download and just like magic it was fixed. My eyes couldn't even believe it when i saw that first blank doccument open up. Many blessing on you.

Comments: I am a doctor and use MSWord to prepare patient notes. I like to use the power of the program whenever possible. (it amazes me how few people use autocorrect, which I use multiple times per note). I look forward to recieving your video CD to learn more about VBA, etc. Thanks for great info. The free stuff I have read has already been helpful.

Comments: I just wanted to thank the team at MouseTrax/TechTrax and Vic Ferri in particular for the paper entitled "Operating Systems - I Forgot My Administrator Password!" This is a truely helpful paper that has just saved my sanity. I found some other tips out on the WWW that called for executing some .bat files and/or downloading some kind of reboot file but warned in both cases that any EFS/encrypted files would not be recoverable unless you know the password that you have just forgotten! I just used Vic Ferri's method and found that I lost NOTHING! Moreover, I have taken Vic Ferri's advice and created a password reset disk to prevent this from happening again. I can't thank you guys and in particular Vic Ferri enough! You guys ROCK! Regards Kurt

This includes issues concerning to life too... The recent tip concerning ICE... wow! I put ice in my phone and passed it on to my girls immediately... (They thought it strange when I sent them a text msg... "remind me to tell you how to put ice in your phone... ha ha" In Case of Emergency...

Comments: For Greg: Great tools and very helpful, but had a little problem running DirCatHTML. Not a programmer (and you appear to be a very good one from my observation of the script for DirCatHTML), and tried to faithfully follow the directions (extracted from zip to desktop, drag and drop directory on script shortcut) but all I got was a flash of a dos window. So I did a little reading and changed the properties to have the program cscript.exe execute the script, whereupon it ran fine. Don't know if it's because I am running higher security that doesn't like vbs, but it does run and it does what I needed, very fast and cleanly. If I [this post] can help others that may have the same problem, it is worth the effort - somehow cscript must run before the wsf file will perform. Regards, J. Lincoln

Comments: Hello Chapmans! Great site. I have only spent a few minutes looking at the flight photos, but it looks like there is a lot of good stuff here. Thanks for adding some fun, thoughtful, considerate "stuff" to this world of ours that can be too tragic too often. I have flown the trip from PWK down the lakefront to Solder Field and back "home" up the west side several times - in fact it was my intro flight many years ago. Great pictures. It brought back those good memories. I REALLY like the night pictures. I flew into O'Hare on my student night cross-country, but I didn't have any pictures of it. These came close to my memories of that flight. Thanks for sharing your photos and thoughts with us.

Comments: I love flying, so really enjoyed those...what struck me most though were the pictures of your trip through southern Ohio to Beaver. I remember going to the general store there as a small child. A family member (I think it was my grandfather's brother Harold) owned it. It recently closed after Miss Muriel Adams retired. My grandfather lived on Main Street as a boy...right on the corner coming into town... with his parents, Arma and Louis. Louis passed before I was born, but my great- grandmother lived there well into her '90's... do you know any of the Adams's? Your photos (taken along Rt. 23 I presume) really took me back... We used to make that trip frequently when I was a little girl living in Columbus... -

Comments: I loved the pet pages. I have a cat and until July 25th 2002 had a great friend, oops I mean dog. The cat was a stray and the dog was a product of a divorce. I don't think Troop (the dog) knew he was a dog.I told my husband if we ever divorced we would be in court over custody of the pets as our children are grown!! Sebastian (the "king" um I mean cat) has no idea he is a cat. Both animals are(were) very vocal and talked back often. Anyway, I am getting squishy. Your site is great and very helpful. I didn't find the answer I needed, but I had fun surfing and shed a tear or two when I read the memorials. Great job and thank you for your interest in helping us folks that are computer challenged! Have a great weekend and God Bless. Sincerely, Valda Grimes

Comments: I just fell in love with your memorial to your sweet Sheba Chapman. My lil girl is a German Shephard mix that looks so much like Sheba but her name is Gina. I also have a German Shephard pup that is 11 months old his name is Rico. Rico is the sweetest yet wussiest German Shephard you ever saw!!! But he is my baby boy he is to have surgury on is hips in a month or 2 he has osteopanisitis. As you can tell I am TOTALLY in love with my animals. We also adopted a fully grown Weimerener mix and her name is lil orpan Annie and 2 summers ago we adopted a 7 year old 14 lb. black cat named Rascal he does a wonderful job of keeping our 3 mutts in line! Rascal has a very bad habit of chewing crinkly plastic and he always wants to lay on our important paperwork especially if we are currently working on it. My husband Hector is very loving of our babies and tolorant of my Dr.Doolittle type bahavior. Thanks for letting me go on and on about my perfect kids...hehe. I love your site!

Comments: I've been editing manuscripts for a typist friend. She's been indenting each line (not sentence, line)in a paragraph by using multiple tabs and spacing with lots of carriage returns. It's so hard to edit, and I've tried to explain how to us styles but have only confused her. I've printed out your "Getting Started with Styles" pages and posted them to her. It'll make such a difference and it'll mean I spend time editing words, not removing tabs. Beginners can't get help from the online help, because they don't know what to look for. Your pages are a wonderful resource, and I'm truly grateful to you. I also looked at your lovely pet page, and will be back to browse the whole site when my friend's polished manuscript is safely on its way to the publisher.

Comments: I think I am really going to like your website. It is exactly the kind of website I have been looking for because of the articles available. When I first started word processing, I used an IBM and WordPerfect. I subscribed to WP magazine for about 6 years. Each issue would have great articles, great answers and tips. I learned all there was to know about WP. Then I switched to imac and Word. I am not interested in the office, just Word for now. So I am looking for a good Word 2001 for a Mac, that explains features and tools the way you guys do.

Comments: Dear Dian: I'm finding a lot of help on this list, although I'm not using Jaws but Supernova, since I'm also blind. You mentioned that you are not too familiar with screen readers? You could have fooled me! Because every time you gave an instruction, it was 100% usable, even for me. So now you know you're not only helping the sighted people, but play a major role in the development of us visually disabled as well. For that, I can only say THANK YOU times "plenty". Regards, Johan

So, Dian...now that I've signed your guestbook, why don't you come sign mine? ;-) Linda Johnson MS Mous Certified Trainer

Comments: As a busy Company Director I have never had the time to study in depth the use of "Word", but have always prefered to type my own simple documents rather than have them typed by somebody else. In consequence I am constantly aware of my lack of knowledge in doing things the easy way, and have finally found useful articles that are not entirely written for "clever people", for which I am most grateful. I will be a constant reader from now on. I am also a PPL (private pilot) with a Cessna Rheims Rocket (172); noting the flying connection, making it even more appealing

Comments: Thanks for your road trip to Hayward, which my brother just told me about. I, too, lived in Hayward many years ago with my grandparents who owned the Riverside Motel in the late 50s to the 60s. Though quite young at the time, I have fond memories of Hayward and have not been able to get back for over 25 years. I remember the hardware store where I bought my Barbie doll clothes, the library, the Dairy Queen, going to the movies for 25 cents, my first communion at the old St. Joseph's church which I did see in Historyland the last time I was there. And there's more… Thanks again for the memories… Barbara, NYC

I can see you went out of your way to be detailed, clear and simple so that I could understand. You went as far as offering to help me with the form by sending it to you if it doesn't work. I really, really appreciate it and wish you happiness, health, peace, love and hope. May all your dreams come true. Thank you! --Juan Armando

Comments: Hi Dian, I can play in the Water!!! I went to the security settings and found my java settings on high safety and changed it to low safety…that didn't work. Then I downloaded the JVM from www.microsoft.com/java and that did it! Thanks so much…I never would have known what to do, and would have just lived with this terrible problem, not knowing the joys of playing in the water and who knows what else I've been missing? You guys are wonderful!

Comments: Dian… I've read your articles on Word forms, along with downloading your sample code/database, and have found them invaluable in helping me connect a Word form to an access database. I can't thank the folks like you enough for donating your time to supplement Microsoft's (lack of) help files and knowledge base. You provide an invaluable service to newbies, neophytes, amateurs and other assorted babes-in-the-woods like myself! Thanks again! …Eric

Comments: I'm not much of an old "Western's Lover" as a matter of fact, but I remember Gene Autrey and Petticoat Junction…and Smiley Brunette. But then, I'm 56, so I'm just an old(er) lover. Give Smiley's family my best and the same in my late parent's name. Gene Autrey and Tom Mix were icons as were Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans. Smiley and the rest just were there when I was young. They stood for something very American about us all… Keep Smilin' and Happy Trails… JB

Comments: Hi Dian: Thanks for your wonderful site and the articles on the site. I really found the article about styles extremely useful. I am a technical writer in India and am currently making an internal document for my company. I would like to know if I can use parts of your article on Styles in my document, for an explanation on how to use Word styles. I will provide a hyperlink to the article and acknowledge that the article was written by you (of course :-))! Please let me know if this is ok. Thanks. Percy

Comments: Dian, once again you have given me not just an answer but the tools to work with Word. When I first started this project I knew very little about Word and nothing about Word forms. You have made this project a lot easier than it could have been. Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing your knowledge!

Comments: Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just found this site because a friend sent me the link to the Tribute movie. I have learned more in an hour on your site and links than I have since we got the computer at the end of March. I think that your site should be included with every windows operating system--i.e. the web address.
